Tori & Jenna worked this past summer at the Carl Sandburg farm. They cleaned stalls, feed and walked the goats and answered the visitors questions. Every Sunday after church we would go to Flat Rock so they could spend their afternoon there. They had a great time and we enjoyed the fresh veggies out of the garden they brought us home. At the end of it all they had a party, all the food was made from goat milk (which is very good), got their awards, and had a goat show. I really enjoyed it and the kids seemed liked they had fun.

4 H clinic

Now to some people the fair is something you go and get a corn dog and ride some ride that is going to make you throw up that corn dog. But not us on the funny farm and many other country families out there. The fair is show off your veggies & flowers you have grown and to get dirty and walk your animal around for hopefully a blue ribbon or just the pleasure of knowing you have control of that 300 lb animal. The weeks before the fair you wash and clean, train, and walk your days away. Our 4H club got together for a clinic to help you learn to wash a chicken or cow and how to clip your sheep. It is also a night that the kids get together and have some fun and us adults say we are not doing all this next year ( but we always do ). I think the kids come home dirty and the animals clean.

1st day of school

It is so hard to believe my little babies are growing up so fast. The twins are going into 7th grade and shorty is going into 4th. Where have the yrs gone? Here is a picture of the girls ready for their first day of school. I hope they are as excited to go the last day as there are here on their 1st.

4-H Sunflower Contest Results Announced!
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2009 4-H Sunflower Contest. We had a lot of VERY BIG sunflowers submitted this year, and it was very hard to determine which ones were the largest. We certainly must have a lot of great gardeners in our clubs!



Mike Stevenson of the Men’s Garden Club of Asheville was our expert judge this year. Each of the sunflowers were split into age groups and then judged by the diameter of the seed head. Mr. Stevenson was very impressed by the sizes of all the sunflowers, and the beauty of many too! We are pleased to announce the winners in each of the following age categories:

VBS

We took this to the Edge...exploring discover God everywhere. We had a great time. The church came together and the kids had a ball. We went on walks to hear bible stories, we did science project, had fabulous snacks, great games, and messy but fun crafts (we Tye dye one night). Saturday night we started VBS with a cover dish and ended it with a campfire (thanks to Jonathan & Jenna for getting it started). Sunday we closed the camp with having our church service out there. Where else can you have a camping experience than the Boy Scout Camp. Camp Stevens set the mood and we had lots and lots of fun.

2009 Poultry Poster Contest Winners Announced!
Congratulations to Jenna Ross for her Silver win in the 11-13 Age Division at the State Level! This year’s Poultry Poster Contest theme was “Wild and Wacky Waterfowl”. We are very proud of all those 4-H’ers that chose to participate in the Poster Contest this year!
