4-H Sunflower Contest Results Announced!
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2009 4-H Sunflower Contest. We had a lot of VERY BIG sunflowers submitted this year, and it was very hard to determine which ones were the largest. We certainly must have a lot of great gardeners in our clubs!
Mike Stevenson of the Men’s Garden Club of Asheville was our expert judge this year. Each of the sunflowers were split into age groups and then judged by the diameter of the seed head. Mr. Stevenson was very impressed by the sizes of all the sunflowers, and the beauty of many too! We are pleased to announce the winners in each of the following age categories:
Cloverbuds:
Recognition for Largest Sunflower: Blake Weaver, Newfound Club
Recognition for Most Beautiful Centristic Design: Tyler Christopher, Sandy Mush Club
Age Group 9-10:
First Place: Will Baldwin, Lucky Clovers Club
Most Photogenic: Jenna Cagle, Sandy Mush Club
Age Group 11-13:
1st Place: Jenna Ross, Sandy Mush Club
1st Runner-up: Madison Baldwin, Lucky Clovers Club
Age Group 14-18:
1st Place: Savannah Maynor, Newfound Club
1st Runner-up: Marty Wines, Newfound Club
